Driving south on Highway 28 along Lake Tahoe’s east shore, one is treated to impossible shades of turquoise blue and emerald green colors. The transitions between the shallow and deep regions are reminiscent of the Caribbean.
If I were to rank spots in terms of water clarity, Sand Harbor would be my top pick. If lucky, one can find dazzling underwater patterns on the sand created by strong winds the day before. If you are one of the first to get into the water, you’ll find serenity and a footprint free spectacle.
I remember sending this photo to my friend Alex and not getting an initial reply, because he said “I stared at this photo for 20 minutes straight”. I often find myself staring at this photo whenever I feel nostalgia for the alpine waters and it’s magnificence. I could not be more grateful for a place like this so close to home.
