Everything Is A Tradeoff
You live in the city and are within walking distance of all kinds of food, entertainment, and culture. I love the city. But then you need to deal with the traffic, the pollution, the blight and crime.Β
I love the countryside. I love the solitude, silence, and isolation. There is absolutely nothing out here, just miles and miles of empty roads and endless acres of farm land. Good luck finding any ethnic cuisines or getting same-day deliveries here.
You buy an expensive luxury car which is nice to drive but now you have to worry about it being scratched or damaged, plus the high cost of insurance and maintenance.Β
You work a high salary job and get paid accordingly, but you have to deal with high levels off stress and responsibility.Β
You live in a nice house, but itβs expensive and time consuming to maintain.
I am lucky to live right by the ocean, but I gotta deal with everything rusting and deteriorating faster than normal.Β
You have kids, whom bring you the most joy but now you have dependencies and give up some of your personal freedom.Β
Your are famous but lost all your privacy.Β

How did I get this for so cheap? Because other people gave up something in their lives. You have all these creature comforts because a bunch of other people somewhere else gave up theirs.Β

There is no better example than the overlanding department. I daydream about the myriad of modifications I can make to my truck, only to realize each of them results in tradeoff. More accessories means more weight. Bigger tires means less MPG and acceleration, more wear and tear on the engine. What is more important? Badass-ery or factory reliability?Β

I realized, everything in life is a tradeoff.
No situation will ever be ideal. You always have to be constantly making decisions on whether or not the tradeoff is worth it. You need to choose what is best for you in every situation. You need to decide whether itβs worth it to you. No one else can make that decision for you. Whatβs it worth to you?Β
